Dull day in transit

Other than the fact that we experienced the biggest floods of the Rajang River in years, there was nothing too eventful about today. We spent the morning transiting back from Pelagus to Sibu to fly to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, and pretty much just noticed that the boat downriver was really flying. Then we got to Sibu – all of the streets were rivers. It was crazy – parking lots were lakes and people were getting around in canoes! The papers were all covering it as the main story and here we were just thinking that we had had a bit of transport luck.

Despite the massive floods, all did go to plan. We arrived on our flight to KK on time and got picked up to go to Mt. Kinabalu National Park. About three hours later, we pulled in. We had a little chalet for the night at the base of one of the mountain trails. The place was basic, but good enough for tomorrow we set out to climb Malaysia’s tallest mountain at 4,095 meters.
